PLANNING CALCULATION AUTOMATED

Setup

Execution

The planning worksheet is used to calculate the master production schedule (MPS) and the material requirements based on actual and forecasted demand.

The planning worksheet can be ran with different parameters such as dates, forecast etc. This can be selected when running the worksheet manually.

Typically such calculations have an impact on performance and are therefore requested to run at time where the impact on the business is as low as possible.

The planning should therefore be scheduled in a job queue, but then it is not possible until now to adjust parameters.

With this new functionality, it is possible to adjust certain parameters for a job queue.

Setup

There is now a possibility to setup a certain job queue with specific parameters.

This setup table, with the name Calc. Planning Setup is accessible after choose the search icon, enter Calc Planning

The following parameters are included in this new setup table:

  • Code: Unique code for one planning setup
  • Description: description for the planning parameters
  • MPS: Boolean, if a calculation of the MPS is needed
  • MRP: Boolean, if a calculation of the MRP is needed
  • Starting Date Formula: default is this value 0D, so it starts that same day. It will be calculated based on the Workdate.
  • Planning Horizon Formula: also a date formula field, to define how far the planning should be calculated.
  • Use Forecast: link with certain production forecast, you want to use.
  • Exclude Forecast before: certain date, to pointing the begin date of the forecast.
  • Respect Planning parameters for exception warnings: Boolean to use safety stock parameters.

These parameters are taken over from the item card.

  • Worksheet template: Default worksheet to use, for example planning or requisition worksheet.
  • Worksheet name: this is your default worksheet name to use,
  • Planning group: link with a specific item planning group

After filling in the necessary parameters in the Calculation planning setup, a job queue needs to be created for the process and calculation of the planning worksheet.

Here below, we made a new job queue. This is scheduled in the downtime hours, because it can have an impact on the performance of Business Central.

The main advantage is now, multiple setups can be defined for multiple worksheets.

Execution

In the following steps, the functionality of the new setup table for planning calculation, will explained in full.

  1. First the setup of the planning table should be filled in:

In this example, a planning calculation was made for the short term (1M) and the medium term (3M)

After completing the setup, the user can also check if the job queue is running or making a new job queue.

  2. When the job queue ran on the designated time, the planning worksheet was filled with all the calculated lines for the Short term worksheet and the medium term worksheet.

The short term worksheet is also filled in
