Control on mandatory dimensions

Standard Business Central checks on dimension rules only when posting a document. A pop up message is displayed when a dimension value is missing. These pop up messages come forward line per line, i.e. the error is shown for the first line the dimension values are missing. If the problem on this line is solved by entering the missing dimension values, the pop up is shown for the following line, etc. For documents with multiple lines this can be a time consuming process.

For item and resource lines, dimensions mostly come from the item card or resource card itself. For G/L account lines, dimensions are often filled by the user.

Business Central Accelerator provides a factbox on the purchase and sales invoice/credit memo screens with information on dimension rules that were set up for G/L accounts. When clicking on a line, the factbox displays which dimensions are mandatory for the G/L account on the line. This makes it easier to check if all dimensions are filled before posting.

No Setup is required for this functionality.

Execution

  1. Choose the search icon, enter Purchase Invoice
  2. Choose the New action
  3. Enter line with a G/L account on which dimensions are mandator, the info is displayed in the factbox G/L Account Mandatory Dimensions.
