10 Global dimensions

Dimensions are attributes and values that categorize entries so you can track and analyze them.

For example, a single sales entry can include multiple dimension information, such as:

  • The account the item sale was posted to
  • Where the item was sold
  • Who sold it
  • The kind of customer who bought it

Business Central Accelerator provides 10 global dimensions which allows a user to filter on :

  • Base key entries tables: G/L entries, Item ledger entries, Value entries
  • Master data: Item, Customer, Vendor, Chart of accounts
  • Sales and Purchase line: such us Order, Invoice…
  • Posted Sales and Purchase Lines

Setup

  1. Choose the search icon, enter General Ledger Setup
  2. Choose the Dimensions fasttab, fill the 10 global dimensions needed
  3. Choose the search icon, enter Update extra shortcut dimenions tables to update dimensions
  4. Fill the dimensions values into customer, vendor, item and Chart of Account, sales or purchase document

Change the order of Global Dimensions

  1. Choose the search icon, enter General Ledger Setup
  2. Choose the Actions action, select Functions -> Change Global-ShortCut Dimensions
  3. Change the order of dimensions
  4. Choose the Sequential action, select start.
    The system will update all related tables even the posting ones such as G/L entry, Item Ledger entries and the Value entries.

Using Dimensions

You can filter on base key entries tables (G/L entries, Item ledger entries, value entries). Choose the Actions action, select Show Dimensions Columns.
